Steve Wolf will be assuming the role of Brass Caption Head and Brass Arranger this year. Steve is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music with a BMus in Music Education. In addition to his primary degree emphasis of euphonium under Stephen Perry and Joanna Hersey, he also studied trombone with the jazz faculty and participated in the jazz ensembles for his entire career at Hartt. In addition, Steve took various classes and lessons with the composition department, and had several pieces of various styles performed on composition recitals. Apart from his academics, Steve founded the University's mens acapella group Hawkapella, and served as it's musical director for his 4 years at the school. He remains connected with the group as a musical coach and works with them regularly. Steve's drum corps experience is based on the 5 seasons ('00-'04) he marched with the Boston Crusaders division 1 finalist corps. He marched in the baritone line for all 5 years and served as baritone section leader for the latter few. More recently, he signed on as primary brass instructor for East Lyme High School, in addition to holding various instructor positions with several other high schools around Connecticut. Last spring, Steve enlisted in the Army National Guard. He now holds the rank of E-4 Specialist and plays Euphonium and Trombone with the 102nd Post Band in Bristol, CT. During the week, he works as the permanent substitute for the Orchestra/Band director at Newington High School, as well as teaching theory and piano classes. In his extremely limited free time, Steve holds a position as the Assistant Director of the Silk City Barbershop Chorus based out of Manchester and sings the Lead part for OnQ, the chapter's District Medalist quartet. Every once in a great while, he gets to see his grey tabby cat that probably doesn't even remember him, and even less often he gets to have a conversation with his pillow. All in all, he's living the dream.
