A newcomer to the 7th Regiment staff in 2007, Bob Rush is pleased to take on the role of Pit Instructor and Arranger. He attended Hartford Conservatory of Music and Hartt College of Music, and studied percussion with Don Borenstein, Ed Shank, Pat Scollin, Gus Barbaro, trombone with Harold Alpert, Wayne Johnson, Ed Foster and John Swallow, and piano with Mae Hayes and Paul Wendehack. Bob has performed locally in a variety of genres on drums, percussion, trombone, piano/keyboards and vocally. Bob’s Drum Corps career began in 1965 with the West Hartford Drum Corps and included being awarded Connecticut State Champion Snare Drummer in 1974, while on a run of four out of five State Championships for the West Hartford corps. Upon age-out, he continued with the corps in the capacities of Brass Instructor, Corps Arranger and later as Percussion Instructor. In 1978, Bob embarked on a fifteen year Senior Drum Corps career with the Connecticut Hurricanes which included winning the DCA World Championship in 1981. He has served in the capacity of marching member, Percussion Instructor, Arranger and as Corps Director. Spanning five decades, Mr. Rush’s career as a music educator has included working with numerous Drum Corps and Marching Bands including: West Hartford Drum Corps, Our Lady of Sorrows, Whip City Diablos, Connecticut Hurricanes, Oakville-Watertown Drum Corps, Connecticut Sunset Drum and Bugle Corps, Southington HS, Southbury Eagles, Trumbull HS, Middletown HS, Connecticut Thunderbolts, New Britain HS, Shelton HS, Southern CT State University, Killingly HS, Rocky Hill HS, Central CT State University, Fitchburg Kingsmen, Notre Dame HS, Bristol Central HS and Connecticut Classics. Bob served as Percussion Artist-in-Residence, Percussion Arranger and Instructor and Brass Instructor for Cheshire High School from 1995-2005, years which included winning championships in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002. In 1996 he founded the CHS Percussion Ensemble, which was selected to perform for educators at the CMEA In-Service Conference in 1998. Bob has arranged/composed over 50 selections for Percussion Ensemble. Bob is in his 7th year as Percussion Artist-in-Residence for Canton Public Schools and, in 2006 returned to Southington High School Blue Knights Marching Band as Pit Instructor. While continuing to perform locally, Bob offers private instruction and ensemble programs for percussion and brass at bob rush studio adjacent to his residence in Southington, CT.
