On Saturday, August 8, 2009 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the 6 year old 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps made history by making it to the Finals of the Open Class DCI World Championships for the very first time. The 7th finished with a new high score of 81.350, and placing 11th, one spot higher than their 12th place finish in the semi-finals the day before.
The level of accomplishment that this represents is tremendous. Competing against corps much larger than themselves is very difficult, the precision and talent the 7th Regiment members show on the competition field won the hearts of the fans and judges alike.
At last years Championships, the 7th Regiment made it to the semi-finals for the first time in corps history, so being a finalist this year is a testament to the corps member's talent and hard work; the skill and knowledge of the super instructional staff; and all the officers and patrons behind the scenes.
As everyone rightfully celebrates a fantastic season that has come to an end, plans will soon be formulating to grow the corps. In 2010 7th Regiment will once again represent the local New London region with the youth who present the showmanship and perseverance of a champion.
Congratulations 7th Regiment, you made us all proud in 2009!
